(Washington, D.C. – August 3, 2022) EDF Action is disappointed that House Speaker Rusty Bowers lost his primary bid.

“We were proud to support Rusty Bowers in his primary,” EDF Action President David Kieve said. “Bowers has been a leader on smart water conservation policies while working tirelessly to preserve the right to vote and defend our democracy. We look forward to working with Mr. Bowers on Arizona water policy in the future, his vote may be stilled but his voice is far too valuable to ignore.”

Bowers drew national attention for his heroic refusal to engage in Donald Trump’s schemes to overturn the 2020 election, including winning the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. In addition to his defense of Democracy, Speaker Bowers has long been a champion for water conservation in Arizona—working across the aisle to find solutions for his community.
