Washington D.C.- January 23, 2020) EDF Action President Joe Bonfiglio released the following statement:

“EDF Action is proudly committed to building bipartisan coalitions to advance sensible and effective environmental policy. In our 17-year history, our bipartisan organization has never endorsed or opposed a presidential candidate.

“But this year is different. The board of EDF Action has determined that the consequences of this election are unprecedented — our environment is hanging in the balance. Thus we have no choice but to oppose the re-election of President Donald Trump. His Administration’s record and his rhetoric – repeatedly denying the reality of climate science, isolating the United States by abandoning the international climate agreement, putting lobbyists in charge of overseeing their former industries, cancelling pollution limits, undermining safeguards on toxic mercury and acid gases, gutting our new chemical safety law, and seeking dramatic cuts to funding and enforcement for clean air and water – leaves us no other choice.

“Mr. Trump is not a conservative in the mold of recent Republican presidents, with whom we had been able to advance important conservation policy. Mr. Trump is a reckless opponent of the core values on which this organization was founded. We will continue to proudly support pro-environment Republicans for other offices at the federal, state and local levels in 2020, but we cannot look away from the consequences of four more years of Mr. Trump’s radical and irresponsible policies. The impact of his re-election on the world we leave our children and grandchildren offers us no other choice.”
