(Washington, D.C. – May 6, 2021) Today, EDF Action, the advocacy partner of the Environmental Defense Fund, launched a digital ad campaign thanking Senators Kyrsten Sinema, Mark Kelly, Michael Bennet, John Hickenlooper, Susan Collins, Angus King, Rob Portman, Lindsey Graham and Joe Manchin, for voting to restore commonsense rules to cut methane pollution, a potent greenhouse gas, from the oil and gas industry.

This bipartisan vote was an important step toward establishing strong methane safeguards that will reduce waste, air pollution and protect public health. The campaign will also include a print newspaper ad in the Santa Fe New Mexican thanking Senator Martin Heinrich for leading this resolution and Senator Ben Ray Luján for co-sponsoring this critical effort.

“Last week, the Senate took an important step in our efforts to restore commonsense safeguards against oil and gas methane pollution with a bipartisan vote,” said Dan Grossman, Senior Director, Regulatory & Legislative Affairs for EDF Action. “Passage of this measure will help ensure that all Americans can reap the benefits of cleaner air and a safer climate. EDF Action is now strongly encouraging Republicans and Democrats in the House to pass H.J.Res. 34, and help get methane regulation back on track.”

These commonsense limits on methane pollution have broad public support, including requiring companies to regularly check for and fix methane leaks and efforts to clean up orphaned wells. Check out this EDF Action poll.
