(Los Angeles, California—October 12, 2018) Today EDF Action and LCV Victory Fund released new radio ads that will air in California 25th Congressional District. The ads, with an investment of $400,000, target Congressman Steve Knight’s record of siding with special interests, including big polluters, over California families.

“Voters in California’s 25th District have seen the impacts of harmful pollution firsthand, from the Porter Ranch gas leak to the worsening wildfires,” said Joe Bonfiglio, President of EDF Action. “They have a clear choice in November, between Katie Hill who has pledged to promote clean energy and tackle harmful pollution and Congressman Steve Knight, who has shown over and over again that he will side with special interests and big polluters. Our ad makes that choice clear.”

“Steve Knight has consistently sided with polluters at the cost of his own constituents’ health and safety,” said Pete Maysmith, Senior Vice President of Campaigns for LCV Victory Fund. “In his three years in office he’s failed families, with just a 3 percent lifetime LCV score. Yet voters in this district clearly support actions to promote a clean and healthy environment.”

Polling conducted for LCV Victory Fund and EDF Action this summer found that public health and environmental protections are popular in the district and Knight’s anti-environment record is deeply unpopular. In contrast, Katie Hill has frequently addressed the issue of reining in pollution to protect public health on the campaign trail.

The radio ads, which can be found here and here will be run by EDF Action and LCV Victory Fund through Election Day. Research backup for the ad can be found here.

Transcript: “Leak”

Something’s not right in Congressman Steve Knight’s office.

It must be the $200,000 in campaign donations Knight took from Big Oil and gas polluters, including the company responsible for the Porter Ranch gas leak. And hundreds of thousands more Steve Knight took from special interests that would benefit from his plan to privatize Social Security.

Explains why Steve Knight says things like this on Social Security: [Steve Knight] “Social Security was a bad idea. I do. I absolutely think it was a bad idea…”

And this – “People are going to have to work longer… They’re gonna have to put in more… We have to do that with Social Security.”

Steve Knight thinks Social Security is a bad idea? And Steve Knight wants us to work longer or pay more before we can retire? Somebody, open a window. Steve Knight’s record in Congress is dangerous.
