NEWS RELEASE

(Washington - July 28, 2017) Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) today introduced the Coastal State Climate Preparedness Act of 2017 along with Congressmen Carlos Curbelo (FL-26). This bill instructs the Secretary of Commerce to establish a coastal climate change adaptation program and coastal states to establish adaptations plans.

“We commend Congressman Carbajal for his leadership in finding solutions to increase climate resiliency. This bill seeks to jumpstart planning and adaption measures needed to address the impacts of climate change that are here and now such as rising seas and extreme weather. These efforts are critically necessary, even as we work toward solutions to reduce greenhouse gas pollution and avert the worst effects of a changing climate.

“This bill is another important example of Republicans and Democrats coming together to prioritize the need to address climate change, and shows an increasing interest in working across party lines to address the most critical issue of our time. The legislation also comes just a week after a bipartisan group of Congressmen successfully thwarted efforts to strip language in the National Defense Authorization Act calling climate change a threat to national security.”
