(WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2023) — EDF Action, the advocacy partner of the Environmental Defense Fund, issued the following statement from Elizabeth Gore, senior vice president for political affairs, in support of the introduction of the bipartisan PROVE IT Act:

“EDF Action applauds the introduction of the bipartisan PROVE IT Act by Sens. Coons and Cramer. The PROVE IT Act will require the government to collect important, actionable data about climate pollution. This new information is critical to incentivizing cleaner industrial practices through policies such as a carbon border adjustment fee on imported goods from countries with less rigorous climate policies and pollution protections.

“EDF supports a suite of policies to fight climate change and mitigate its effects. The PROVE IT Act and other similar policies should be combined with efforts to address the impacts on frontline communities that face the highest levels of pollution and the greatest hazards from climate change.”
