Six-Figure TV & Digital Ad Buy Names Reps. Scott Perry (R-PA-10), Derrick Van Orden (R-WI-03) and Monica De La Cruz (R-TX-15) for Backing Tax Breaks for Big Oil While Cutting Medicaid and Clean Energy
WASHINGTON, July 16, 2025 – This week EDF Action is launching a six-figure ad campaign in each of three Congressional districts to hold Representatives Scott Perry, Derrick Van Orden and Monica De La Cruz accountable for voting in favor of President Trump’s tax bill – a sweeping new law that delivers for fossil fuel interests at the expense of their constituents’ health and economic security.
“The more voters learn about Trump’s tax bill, the more they hate it,” said David Kieve, president of EDF Action. “Scott Perry, Derrick Van Orden and Monica De La Cruz knew it was a bad deal for the people back home, but they voted for it anyway. The consequences of the law, including higher energy prices and fewer good-paying jobs, will reverberate throughout their communities. We’re going to make sure everyone knows who’s to blame when the bill comes due.”
The new ads, airing on television and premium digital platforms – including Spanish-language TV in TX-15 and streaming services like Hulu and YouTube in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – highlight how the law slashes clean energy incentives and Medicaid funding while handing out controversial tax breaks to fossil fuel companies.
These ads were informed by recent polling commissioned by EDF Action and conducted by Global Strategy Group that showed the Trump administration’s megabill is deeply unpopular with voters and only gets worse as voters learn more about the law. In particular, the provision that lets oil and gas companies off the hook from paying a fee on harmful methane waste and other tax carveouts for fossil fuel interests leaves voters with a bad taste, rewarding polluters while putting their health at risk. Once voters learn what’s in the bill, they oppose it by a two-to-one margin, with 67% opposed and 33% supporting.
New research from the non-partisan think tank Energy Innovation forecast substantial electricity price increases in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Texas as a result of the Trump tax law. The Lone Star State could see wholesale electricity prices rise 19% by 2030 and a whopping 150% by 2035.
The campaign is the latest part of EDF Action’s broader effort to shine a light on the detrimental impact of a law that favors special interests over ordinary Americans and hold lawmakers accountable for their votes.
