The verdict: Voters demand affordability and accountability in the 2026 midterms

Statement from EDF Action President David Kieve

WASHINGTON, DC, November 3, 2026 – “Voters delivered a clear verdict tonight. They are paying more for everything, and Donald Trump has done nothing to bring costs down. His failure on affordability weighed on candidates across the country.

“Energy was front and center, and it went far beyond pain at the pump. Voters rejected the Trump administration’s failing energy policies, which have pushed electricity bills higher. Families know that blocking clean energy raises rates. Paying companies to abandon wind projects, canceling grants meant to lower rural utility bills, and using emergency orders to keep coal plants running when cleaner, cheaper options are available all moved us in the wrong direction.

“Voters see the pattern. They believe Donald Trump and those who have enabled his agenda are working for powerful interests, not the working families who are footing the bill. Decisions that raise costs while rewarding the well-connected are exactly what voters rejected.

“The message is unmistakable: lower bills and clean, reliable power. Americans expect leaders who put families first, and they have demanded real accountability and oversight of an administration that has not.”
