On a personal note…EDF Action President David Kieve says knocking on doors during election season is illuminating. And effective.

WASHINGTON, October 22, 2026 — We are 12 days from Election Day, but across the country millions of people have already voted, including in Texas, where the record-breaking first day of early votes cast attracted significant attention. It’s an exciting time of year for us for many reasons, including seeing months of election planning begin to pay off. This week, EDF Action Votes launched new ads supporting climate champion Kathy Castor’s reelection to Congress in a newly gerrymandered district in Florida. EDF Action Votes also launched an ad in Arizona highlighting Rep. Eli Crane’s failure to help address the water crisis affecting Arizona and other Southwestern states that draw their water from the Colorado River Basin. Crane is an outspoken member of the House Freedom Caucus. The ad contrasts his record with that of his opponent, former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez, who will prioritize solutions if elected to Congress. I also learned that our partners at Arizonans for Affordable Energy PAC are supporting longtime friend to EDF Action Clara Pratte in her race for the Arizona Corporation Commission. Knowing that we are stepping forward with these ads at a meaningful time – and at scale – to support climate and clean energy champions fulfills my innate desire to feel like my work is making a difference.
I’m looking forward to being on the ground with Clara, President Nez, and other stellar candidates running for office in Arizona for the final several days before the election, and I’m hopeful for a good night on November 3. I’m buoyed by poll after poll indicating that President Trump’s approval ratings on the economy continue to drag down candidates who have supported his agenda.
We’ve long argued that Republican candidates who can credibly distance themselves from the President’s failing policies and embrace clean energy have more to gain from doing so than anyone else, but that it’s a relatively high bar given how much acquiescence we’ve seen to his agenda. On Tuesday afternoon, I tested that firsthand, when I spent time in a personal capacity knocking doors on a gorgeous fall afternoon in Morrisville, Pennsylvania on behalf of Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick. I didn’t introduce myself as a “Washington insider” – that wouldn’t have played well in Morrisville – but I did share with many of his constituents that I’d seen his work up close and knew him to be one of the most effective members of Congress, and was happy to pitch in for someone who I believe puts country over party and works earnestly for bipartisan solutions. The response I got from the folks I spoke to was inspiring.
I’m going to try to spend as much time as possible knocking doors for our priority candidates between now and Election Day. I’ve long found it to be the only tried and true relief I have from pre-election anxiety. If volunteering with a campaign is something that you’d like to do, please reach out to me at dkieve@edfaction.org. We’d be honored to have you pitch in as part of our EDF Action PAC efforts. Lots of EDF Action team members are showing up for the candidates we’re supporting. Last week, our Florida State Director was out knocking doors in Tampa, and my friend Adam Met joined Rep. Jamie Raskin and several volunteers from Clean Air Moms Action and EDF Action to launch a canvass in Nyack, New York, for Cait Conley.
And if that’s not how you feel best about contributing, please know that your continued support for EDF Action is enabling us to show up in meaningful ways for candidates who share our values and our priorities.
