Statement of EDF Action President David Kieve
WASHINGTON, DC, February 23, 2026 – As President Donald Trump gets set to deliver the first State of the Union address of his second term, household electric bills over the past year are up 13% nationally, his EPA is putting the value of human life at zero dollars, and he continues to call the affordability crisis that is emptying American wallets a “con job” and a “hoax.”
“There’s nothing President Trump can say to distract voters from what they’re seeing when they’re paying their bills and planning their futures. He’s spent a year complaining that your concerns about the cost of living are just one more hoax made up to make him look bad – all while his administration blocked new affordable energy from being built when electricity prices have never been higher and schemed to invite more harmful pollution when extreme weather has been so destructive.
“After all the chaos, it’s clear that the Trump administration is providing white-glove service to an invitation-only shortlist, and you’re not on it.
“With new ABC/Washington Post/Ipsos polling showing President Trump’s disapproval at 60%, elected officials everywhere would do well to get as far away from him and his unpopular, failing policies as possible. They don’t have much time to do it with the midterm election looming.”
