(Washington, D.C.,- August 24, 2020) This weekend, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Delivering for American Act (H.R. 8015) to protect and preserve the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

This piece of legislation is an important step to safeguarding a bedrock institution that provides critical services for all residents of the United States. In the middle of this pandemic, the services USPS provide are even more important for Americans trying to stay safe while still getting the essentials they need, such as mail-in ballots, social security checks and prescription medications.

It is time for the Senate to follow suit and pass the critical funding and protections needed for the USPS to continue to do their essential job.

EDF Action Senior Vice President of Political Affairs Elizabeth Gore released the following statement:

“It’s great to see the U.S. House step up and protect the USPS, because timely and accessible mail delivery for all Americans is an essential part of the fabric of our society. This is particularly crucial in an election year, when many are using mail-in voting as a safe and secure way to make their voices heard at the ballot box. Now it’s time for the Senate to take up this bill, and make sure that the USPS has the resources and tools it needs to ensure that voters all across the country don’t have to choose between their right to vote and their health.”
