“This amendment is a health hazard to the American people. Air pollution causes premature deaths, heart attacks, bronchitis cases, and asthma attacks. The Mercury and Air Toxics Standards and the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule were created to help get toxic substances out of the air we breathe. But the Toomey amendment would undermine those public health protections, and create special exemptions so some power plants can keep polluting. This is an unnecessary and dangerous amendment, and we urge lawmakers to vote against it.”
