(Charlotte, North Carolina – September 10, 2019) EDF Action releases a statement about the NC-09 Special Election:

“We are disappointed in the election results, but proud to have stood up for clean energy leader Dan McCready,” said President of EDF Action Joe Bonfiglio. “Dan should be proud of his run too – it quite literally took everything the other side could come up with to defeat him in a district Donald Trump carried by 12 points.  We couldn’t simply stand by and watch while ads—funded in part by donations from fossil fuel interests—deliberately mischaracterized McCready’s work to build a clean energy business in his home state. We hope Dan will continue to be a vocal proponent of clean energy as a successful businessman and veteran.”

EDF Action and EDF Action Votes spent nearly $1 million on a contrast TV ad, highlighting the stark difference between, Dan McCready, a solar energy entrepreneur and Marine combat veteran and state Senator Dan Bishop.

EDF Action deployed staff to the district to support the campaign’s final get-out-the-vote efforts and mobilized its members in the district to volunteer and vote for McCready with a series of action alerts, text messages, and phone calls.

EDF Action supported Dan McCready in 2018 with a robust direct mail program and a digital advertising campaign, part of the nearly $9 million in 2018, the organization spent in over 30 races in pivotal battleground states, supporting pro-environment candidates on both sides of the aisle up and down the ballot.
