“Washington’s effort to pass Initiative 1631 is an important part of the growing momentum for climate action in cities and states across the country.  The mobilization of citizens from all corners of Washington State is sending a strong message to the world that when it comes to climate change, the Trump administration does not speak for the American people.

“The battle lines here could not be clearer. Fossil fuel companies are spending tens of millions of dollars in hopes of defeating a measure designed to create a healthier, safer future. They are terrified to see momentum for climate action build. That’s why it is more important than ever that people from all walks of life come together now in support of investment in a safer climate.

“Initiative 1631 would invest in strategies to reduce the damaging carbon pollution that is intensifying extreme weather events, exacerbating threats to our children’s health, and changing our planet in front of our eyes.  Ultimately, we need enforceable, declining limits on carbon pollution that put America and the world on a path to net zero emissions as soon as possible.  We are inspired by what our allies at the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy have already achieved in building the type of momentum and powerful call for action that will help catalyze such critical progress.”
