(Washington, D.C., April 4, 2022) Today, the Biden Administration released a plan to invest in the nation’s public school infrastructure. This includes leveraging the investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the American Rescue Plan to upgrade school buses from diesel to electric as well as making energy efficiency retrofits and improving indoor air quality.

EDF Action President David Kieve released the following statement:

“The Biden Administration’s actions will help tackle the climate crisis, clean up our air and protect the health of our nation’s children. When kids are healthy, they can focus on learning, and their parents don’t have to worry about diesel fumes from their school bus or asthma attacks.”

The results of this action plan, which draws on funding within both the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, both of which are transformative laws that EDF Action was proud to support, will include investments in electric buses that will reduce emissions, lower energy costs, advance in environmental justice, and create good paying union jobs. EDF Action commends the Biden-Harris Administration for their leadership in developing this thoughtful plan that puts our children’s health and education front-and-center. EDF Action specifically wants to acknowledge Vice President Harris for her leadership on these issues. Our children will be healthier thanks to her long-standing focus.”

There is – of course – more work to be done. Especially when it comes to halting the climate crisis and investing in the next generation. That’s why EDF Action continues to strongly advocate for Congress to pass the full scope of President Biden’s clean energy and climate priorities.”
