Following Senator Susan Collins decision to opposed former coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler to run the Environmental Protection Agency, EDF action launched a digital ad praising the senator’s vote. Senator Collins’ vote represents a rejection of Wheeler’s policies that undermine limits toxic mercury, acid gases, and carbon pollution.

“Senator Collins stood up for her state by voting no on coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler. It’s outrageous that we have a long-time lobbyist for polluting industries running the agency that is supposed to protect clean air and water,” said Joe Bonfiglio, president of EDF Action. “Susan Collins understand that Maine families would be hurt by Trump-Wheeler polices that allow more air and water pollution, will increase asthma attacks, and completely ignore the threat of climate change.”

President Donald Trump nominated Wheeler to run the EPA after former administrator Scott Pruitt resigned under a cloud of scandal. Wheeler had served as Pruitt’s top deputy and took over the agency as acting administrator eight months ago.

The ad, which can be seen here, will start running this week.
