“EPA’s new clean air standard for ground-level ozone is a modest step to reduce the amount of smog we breathe. Leading scientists have concluded that the current level of smog in our air is unhealthy, leading to respiratory problems in children and the elderly, as well as other negative health impacts. Americans want healthy air for their kids to breathe and Sen. Flake’s bill would lock us in to a future of more smog.

“Improving air quality is also an important step forward for our economy. Studies show the benefits of new clean air rules have outweighed the costs by 30 to 1. When you have less smog, you get fewer hospital visits, fewer missed school days, and fewer sick days out of work. Not only will the ozone/smog rule make our country healthier, it will help our economy, too.

“I hope that Senators who care about clean air will stand up and oppose this attempt to block these critical health protections. Otherwise they need to explain to their constituents why they voted for more smog.”
