NEWS RELEASE

“Today a Senate committee passed legislation that would threaten basic health and safety protections Americans count on. The Regulatory Accountability Act, the REINS Act and the Midnight Rules Act are just a few of the slew of bills that would undermine the health and environmental safeguards we take for granted every day. Congress is moving a back-door attack on landmark health and safety laws because they know full well that the public would not stand for an open attempt to repeal or hobble these protections.

Yet, the ultimate impact is just as damaging: a government that is slower and less effective at responding to public needs – on everything from clean air and water to safe food and consumer safety. We’ll have more asthma attacks, more dangers lurking in our food, and more health risks for American families should these bills become law.

We hope and expect Senators will see these bills for what they are—an attack on fundamental protections—and oppose this legislation.”
