(Washington, D.C. – January 10, 2017) EDF Action today released a new video showing the reasons why Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt should not be confirmed as Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“EDF Action has never before opposed a candidate for EPA Administrator,” said EDF Action president Elizabeth Thompson, “but Mr. Pruitt’s record and principles are so dangerous we are strongly opposing his confirmation.”

The three-and-a-half minute video lays out a powerful case against Pruitt becoming the gatekeeper for America’s most important environmental protections, including:

  • Pruitt has repeatedly sued to block basic pollution safeguards, including standards for mercury pollution, smog, and arsenic pollution
  • Pruitt has tried to cast doubt on whether mercury pollution poses a public health hazard
  • Pruitt has directed millions in energy industry contributions to allied political groups, sometimes within days of taking actions that benefit the companies.
  • Pruitt believes pollution protections for downwind states encroach on sovereignty for upwind states
  • Pruitt said debate should be encouraged about the truth of climate science
  • Pruitt said EPA was “never intended” to be our nation’s foremost environmental regulator
