Albuquerque, New Mexico — LCV Victory Fund, EDF Action and the Latino Victory Fund today unveiled a $600,000 TV ad in New Mexico’s 2nd congressional district. The ad, which will run in both the Albuquerque and El Paso markets through Election Day, highlights Herrell’s special interest agenda, including when she charged taxpayers thousands of dollars for trips to meet with corporate lobbyists.

WATCH: “Trust”

“Yvette Herrell’s fellow Republicans say they can’t trust her, so why should the rest of New Mexico?” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “New Mexico voters need to know there’s a clear choice in this race between a candidate who will fight for their communities, and someone who would sell off the state’s most treasured places to polluters like the Koch Brothers.”

“Yvette Herrell has been focused on advancing her political career, rather than helping the people of Southern New Mexico,” said Joe Bonfiglio, President of EDF Action. “She took government sponsored trips to meet with special interest lobbyists in the hopes they could help her run for Congress. Yvette Herrell won’t clean up the swamp, she’ll make it even murkier. This is not someone who is going to stand up to Washington lobbyists and fight for clean air and water. ”

“The last thing our government needs right now is a self-serving politician like Yvette Herrell,” said Cristóbal J. Alex, Latino Victory Fund president. “Running for office is not a money-grubbing scheme; it’s a vow taken to serve and stand for the community, something Herrell clearly does not understand. The people of Southern New Mexico deserve a leader who will advocate for them in Congress, not for Washington lobbyists and special interest groups. Herrell is not that leader.”

The ad educates voters about Herrell’s record of siding with special interests to advance her own career. By her own admission, Herrell used her time in Santa Fe to build connections to Washington special interests, specifically naming the Koch-funded lobbying group “ALEC,” and preparing a run for Congress. At the same time, she hid nearly half a million dollars in government contracts from the public.

As a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, Herrell voted against environmental protections and earned a Conservation Voters New Mexico lifetime score of 14 percent — which sunk to zero this past session. Herrell even proposed an extreme attack on New Mexico’s public lands that could result in national parks being sold off to private developers, earning her a spot on the 2018 Dirty Dozen.

A script of the ad is below, and research back-up is available here.

“Trust”

What do you call a Republican who even Republicans say can’t be trusted? Yvette Herrell.

Herrell’s company got $440,000 in undisclosed state contracts while she was in office, until she got caught. She charged state taxpayers thousands for trips to meet with corporate lobbyists pushing the Koch Brothers’ political agenda on the government dime.

That’s right New Mexico. If Herrell’s fellow Republicans say they can’t trust her… can you?
