EDFAction commends Senators Susan Collins and Chris Murphy for their introduction of the bipartisan Super Pollutants Act of 2015.

The bill will address the critical issue of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs). SLCPs are greenhouse gases including methane, black carbon and hydrofluorocarbons. They are especially potent climate pollutants and contribute disproportionately to climate change; reducing them will have important near -term climate benefits.

The Super Pollutants Act of 2015 will encourage the speedy adoption of American-made technologies that can reduce the SLCPs in our air.

“The Super Pollutants Act of 2015 will provide much-needed technical guidance to reduce global methane emissions and other dangerous types of climate pollution,” said Elizabeth Thompson, president of EDFAction. “The U.S. has considerable expertise on methane mitigation; in addition to getting other countries to reduce emissions, we also should use that expertise here at home to aggressively reduce methane from new and existing sources. Developing the technologies to reduce methane and other climate-disrupting pollutants will boost the American economy while also protecting us from the dangers of climate change.”
