(Washington D.C., - November 2, 2020) EDF Action President Joe Bonfiglio released the following statement prior to the election:

“Voting is a fundamental right in our country. Every registered voter should be able to cast a ballot without fear or intimidation. Voters that have exercised their right by submitting an absentee ballot by mail or through an early-vote opportunity, like a drive-up location shouldn’t have to worry about their vote counting this year — or any year. This should be obvious, but we are not naïve. EDF Action condemns efforts, through litigation or otherwise, that would disenfranchise any eligible voter.

“We encourage all voters to exercise their Constitutional right. We thank polling officials who are working hard to make sure everyone’s voice is heard and the voters who are casting ballots regardless of threats or bullying. Once the polling ends, all votes must be counted to ensure free and fair elections.

“As former Governor John Kasich said yesterday, ‘You don’t win elections by trying to prevent people from voting. Every legitimate vote should count. Period. Shame on those in Texas who are trying to delegitimize these ballots.’

“This election is too important to do anything less than ensure an accurate and complete tally.”
