(Washington, D.C. - October 19, 2016) Today EDF Action announced spending to oppose anti-environmental candidates in two closely watched House Races, Maine’s 2nd district and New York’s 22nd district. In both races voters have a choice between a candidate who supports common sense solutions for public health and the environment or one with a record of opposition to environmental protections.

In Maine, Congressman Bruce Poliqun (R-ME) denies the reality of climate change and has a consistent record of opposing limits on pollution, including for our water and air. Poliquin’s opponent, Emily Cain, supports efforts to reduce pollution and protect our health.

The New York race is a closely watched contest to win the seat left vacant by retiring Congressman Richard Hanna (R-NY). Unlike Hanna, who has a record of supporting solutions on climate change, Claudia Tenney denies climate change and opposes limits on pollution.

The spending in these two races comes on top of efforts to oppose four other anti-environment House candidates, as well as campaigns to support several pro-environment Republicans. EDF Action has also spent heavily in Senate races, including more than $1.1 million to support Katie McGinty in her race against Sen. Pat Toomey and major efforts on behalf of Russ Feingold in Wisconsin and Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada.
