(Washington, D.C. – September 11, 2018) EDF Action launched an online ad today showing 18 potential 2020 presidential contenders and calling on them to elevate the climate change issue and become the race’s true climate champion.

The ad will run online in San Francisco during this week’s climate summit and in Des Moines, IA and Manchester, NH.

“Right now, our work is focused on the midterm election and on holding this Congress accountable, but we’re taking a moment to remind anyone thinking of running for president in 2020 that they’ll need to come with bold plans to cut climate pollution and move us toward clean energy,” said Joe Bonfiglio, president of EDF Action. “As soon as the midterms are over, the starting bell for 2020 will ring. We want all candidates to compete to be the climate champion in this race.”

With more intense wildfires, coastal damage, increased asthma attacks, and huge economic costs from carbon pollution, EDF Action will be pushing the 2020 contenders to make this issue a top priority.

“It’s not enough to recognize the danger and call for action,” added Bonfiglio.” All Americans should insist on specific, bold plans from candidates in both parties to cut climate pollution and move us rapidly toward renewable energy.”
